💫 The Story Behind the Song

Have you ever been through a moment like this — you've tried everything you can, yet still can't find a way out, and quietly you wonder: someone like me, would the Buddha really accept? This song was written precisely for moments like that. On an ordinary day, Venerable Master Jing Ben was reading Master Shan-dao's teaching on the “deep faith in self and Dharma” (机法深信) — believing deeply that we are ordinary beings full of afflictions, bound to birth and death with no way to free ourselves, while believing just as deeply that Amitabha Buddha will surely save us — when his heart was suddenly touched, and this song was born: salvation has never depended on how tightly we hold on, but on the fact that the Buddha has never let go of us. May you hear in this song: all along this road, Amitabha, our compassionate Father, has never left us. Namo Amituofo.

🎵 Lyrics:

There's a voice that's calling out to me,

It's Amitabha, holding me so tenderly.

Not because I was ever good enough—

He never turns away from one like me.

I've walked so long,

still I'm lost inside the maze;

so many times I've tried on my own,

but I never find the way out.

Clear for only a while,

then the same old chains pull me back again;

and at last I see myself for what I am—

just an ordinary soul, adrift through endless lives.

And just as I was about to let go—

There's a voice that's calling out to me,

It's Amitabha, holding me so tenderly.

In His Eighteenth Vow, there's room for me,

No need to fear, no need to worry,

He says that I will surely make it home.

Namo Amitabha,

I will surely make it home.

Not because I was ever good enough—

He never turns away from one like me.

He was the first to reach out His hand,

in my lowest, most unworthy hour.

There's a voice that's calling out to me,

It's Amitabha, holding me so tenderly.

In His Eighteenth Vow, there's room for me,

No need to fear, no need to worry,

He says that I will surely make it home.

Namo Amitabha,

I will surely make it home.

No more carrying it all on my own,

no more pretending that I am strong.

Let Amitabha's hands carry me through the storm,

carry me home to the land of bliss.

This soul of mine that kept on sinking down,

was caught at last, held safe in His hands.

Namo Amitabha…
