“2000 Days of Namo Amituofo”| Reflections from Master Jing Ben on the Online Chanting Assembly

Without realizing it,

our online chanting assembly

has now reached 2000 consecutive days.

Looking back,

from the very first day

until today, more than five years have passed.

Over these five years,

every evening at 8 p.m.,

the Dharma masters and fellow practitioners

have gathered together on the Pure Land Buddhism online platform.

Through storm or calm,

wherever we may be,

we have accomplished together something truly extraordinary -

single-mindedly chanting: Namo Amituofo.

Some have been here since the very beginning;

others joined us halfway through.

But regardless of how long each has been with us,

all of our hearts

have already converged in the same place -

the embrace of Amitabha Buddha.

2000 days is not just a number.

It represents 2000 nights,

where the sound of the Buddha’s Name never cease;

It represents countless times

when in moments of distress, we found peace through the Name;

when in loneliness, we found companionship in the Name;

when facing obstacles, we sought blessings through the Name;

and when loved ones passed away,

we relied on the Name to dedicate merit for them.

In these 2000 days,

every single day, hundreds of disciples have joined voices in chanting.

The Buddha’s Name transcends the screen, filling the vast space,

and gathering within the boundless light of Amitabha Buddha.

The Buddha said in the Contemplation Sutra:

“Reciting the Buddha’s Name even once eradicates the grave karma of eighty kotis of kalpas of birth and death.”

Gathered over 2000 days,

with so many voices united,

how could such merit ever be measured?

It benefits not only ourselves,

but also numerous sentient beings.

Many may ask:

“What good is chanting the Buddha’s Name?

What difference does it make to chant every day?”

The benefits of chanting

may not always appear as immediate miracles.

But as long as we persist,

we will personally experience:

Chanting the Name brings calm when our minds are restless;

Chanting the Name brings hope when we are sorrowful;

Chanting the Name removes fear when we feel helpless.

Gradually, problems dissolve in the sound of the Name,

and body and mind find peace and ease.

More importantly,

chanting provides us with the ultimate safeguard in life:

At the moment of death,

Amitabha Buddha will surely come to receive us in the Pure Land.

This guarantee cannot be given

by any worldly wealth, power, or relationships.

It is only Amitabha Buddha

who extends His compassionate hand

at the moment when we need it most.

🪷

Dear Dharma masters and fellow practitioners:

2000 days is not an end,

but a new beginning.

Ahead lie 3000 days, 5000 days,

and indeed, until the end of this lifetime,

we will continue chanting together.

May more people in the future,

and even all beings throughout the Dharma realms,

join in reciting Namo Amituofo.

Every recitation is never wasted;

every day of perseverance

is infinite merit.

🪷

Therefore, let us encourage one another:

If your friends or family members have not yet begun chanting,

or if they already do,

invite them to join our online assembly.

Tell them:

With just one recitation of Namo Amituofo,

they receive the Buddha’s protective light.

By persevering every day,

they are always embraced by the compassionate care of Amitabha,

and will surely attain birth in the Pure Land,

forever free from suffering.

🪷

We also rejoice in everyone’s participation through these 2000 days,

with gratitude to the tireless efforts of the volunteer bodhisattvas,

and to the Dharma masters who have led the chanting together.

May this 2000th day be a new starting point -

let us continue to take the Buddha’s Name as our companion,

day by day, year after year,

until the end of our lives,

unceasingly chanting Namo Amituofo,

while inviting ever more people

to walk together on the path of Buddha-recitation.

As Master Shandao taught:

“The World-Honored Amitabha originally made profound and weighty vows,

to embrace and transform the ten directions through His Name of Light.

If only one has faith and recites,

whether throughout a lifetime, ten recitations, or even a single one,

by the power of His Vows,

birth in the Pure Land is easily attained.”

🪷

May more and more people join the ranks of Buddha-recitation.

Wherever you may be,

through the Pure Land Buddhism online platforms -

YouTube, Facebook,

or WeChat (for those in Mainland China) -

every night at 8 p.m.,

you can chant the Buddha’s Name in unison with practitioners worldwide,

receive the Buddha’s light together,

and form the sacred bond of Buddha-recitation.

If you have any needs,

you are most welcome to contact the Pure Land Buddhism centres.

May we always support one another in the sound of the Name.
