What is “Continuous Recitation”?
Master Jingben Answers: Namo Amitabha Buddha. What is meant by “continuous recitation” is precisely what Master Shan-dao taught: “for the entirety of this life, single-mindedly recite Namo Amitabha Buddha” — from this moment on, throughout this lifetime, continuously call this single Name “Namo Amitabha Buddha,” letting the recitation naturally flow into daily life, calling the Name while walking, standing, sitting, and lying down.
It is just like falling raindrops. Water drips from the eaves, one drop after another. Although there are intervals between each drop, and it does not fall every single moment without pause, it always falls in the same direction, never changing. Our recitation is the same — it does not mean we must recite every single second. When busy, we work; when tired, we rest — this is only natural. But as long as what we always recite is this one Name “Namo Amitabha Buddha,” without switching, without changing course, this is continuity.
So “continuous recitation” simply means single-mindedly reciting “Namo Amitabha Buddha” — having settled upon this one Name “Namo Amitabha Buddha,” reciting it exclusively to the end of one’s life. That is all there is to it. Namo Amitabha Buddha.
